The z555 Hard Drive Crash, a Complicated Affair
The HP Z555 is a digital entertainment center, which is very similar to a pc. It also has a hard drive, which can also have problems. If it crashes, I don’t think you will want to pay thousands of dollars to recover the data. It is designed as an entertainment system so no important data should be on the hard drive. However, you should have the data, which is important that you stored in other places also.
What you should know is that recovering data if the hard drive is logically damaged is much cheaper than if it were physically damaged. That’s because recovering data from a logically damaged hard drive is very easy. If the hard drive is physically damaged, the recovery will be much harder and the data can be recovered depending on the type of physical damage. If a big area of the magnetic part has been damaged, maybe no data can be recovered. However, if only a part of the hard drive is damaged, it can be replaced. That isn’t very easy to do as you need a special environment for that, tools and equipment, all of which are very expensive. You also need a lot of experience to be able to properly change a part.
Anyway it is best to keep what data is important away from the digital entertainment center and if the hard drive crashes, you just exchange it. Usually much easier, more cost-effective and a new hard drive will be much better than a repaired one.
